Being an entrepreneur there are no 9-5 set hours in the work day. Often entrepreneurs will wake up early and work late in the night to get their project or business started and keep it successful. In order to not be working around the clock, it is important to stay focused so you can get your work done and reach your goals without sacrificing personal time. You are responsible for your own time and the only person you have to report to is yourself.

Know Yourself

Knowing when you work best and how you work best are two essential keys to being able to stay focused. Since you can make your own hours, you can also set your own hours. If you work better in the morning schedule the brunt of your work then, if you are a night owl then take the mornings to do other things in your personal life and focus on your business work later in the day. Having a good understanding of how to schedule your day based on your work ethic is essential to being able to stay focused

The Calendar is Your Lifeline

Make sure to schedule everything out on your calendar so you are sure that everything gets done and has enough time to get done. Blocking out time for certain projects throughout the day as well as times to check your email and respond can be a huge time saver. It can be so easy to get distracted by emails as they come up but if you are constantly checking that can take your whole day. Scheduling periods throughout the day to take a look is a huge time saver. In addition, meetings can take a huge chunk of time out of your day as well as get you off track and minimize your focus. Try to schedule all of your meetings on the same day if possible or schedule tasks that don’t require huge chunks of time and lots of focus on those days.

Don’t Try To MultiTask

While you may have a million and one projects going on, don’t try to multitask. Focus on one thing a time. Giving each individual task your full effort will get them done faster than just spreading yourself thin switching from project to project. Write a schedule and stick to it and don’t waver because you got a text or an email.

Staying focused as an entrepreneur can be hard especially since you are accountable for yourself and constantly have something else that could be getting your attention. It is important to create a schedule and stick to it to see success.
